Ping spikes - DG2470; SB6190; Requesting metrics for troubleshooting

Greetings! EDIT: Update - 2015-01-12 (2:00 PM EST) I spoke with an engineer at Arris regarding the issue. While it's been acknowledged that this is a problem, as of this time, I'm the only one who has reported the issue to them. My case is still open, but does not have much priority for being fixed at the moment. Some of you have commented about having similar issues - if this is the case, please take a look below and respond with your ping times, or, better yet, do that and call Arris support directly to open a case describing the problem. As of this time, we know that the problem exists on the specific chipset used in both the SB6190 and DG2470 modem line. Anyone submitting results from either modem would be a great help. Beyond that, if this problem exists with other DOCSIS 3.0 modems, that would be great to know as well. -------------------------------------------------------------- This is a request for assistance (or, more specifically, for output of a quick ping command). I'd like to compare results from my modems to others. Some additional details are at the tail-end of this post, but here's my request: I'd like to ask this of those of you who have either Arris model DG2470(A), or SB6190 to execute a 10-second ping against your modem from a hard-wired device (no wireless please) and report the results in a comment below. To keep results similar, I'd ask that anyone willing to offer results use the following command, based on your OS: For Windows-based machines: batchping -n 10 192.168.100.1 ... and, for *nix-based machines (including Mac, Linux, etc.): bashping -c 100 -i 0.1 192.168.100.1 If you participate, please include the output of the ping command, as well as the model of modem, and firmware version if you can locate it (typically found somewhere through http://192.168.100.1/). Note, the IP address of 192.168.100.1 is the management IP of your modem in bridged mode. I believe it works in NAT mode, so if someone with a DG2470 in NAT mode could confirm that would be awesome. ------------------------------- Details below ------------------------------ I've been working on an issue for a few weeks now that began when I upgraded to a higher speed with my ISP, which required me to upgrade modems to support the faster speed. There are a couple of posts under my name here if you care to look up the details, but I won't belabor the point. I'll just state the following: The ping spikes / latency issues: Occur on at least two hardware models; DG2470, and SB6190. ---> The DG2470 is owned by the ISP. The SB6190 I own (purchased new). Present regardless of whether the modem is in bridged or NAT mode, for modems which support it. Exists whether the coaxial cable is connected or not. Exists across multiple ISPs (another user on this forum provided diagnostic data from his modem). Extend into real-world connections, and are most evident in latency-sensitive applications (such as VoIP, online gaming, etc.) For at least the SB6190, occur with the latest firmware available to me (9.1.93K). As a quick point of clarification, the "issue" is both ping spikes, as well as a much higher-than-expected latency (direct connection pings should be sub-1ms, not 5ms - 10ms). I also own a number of other cable modems, such as the SB6120 and SB6121, which do not exhibit these problems.

Modem keeps disconnecting/rebooting in late evening

Every evening around 11pm and on, my modem is losing connection (or maybe rebooting). Modem: ARRIS / Motorola SB6121 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem ISP: Time Warner Attaching my log and status after the issue (because I can't ping or access the web panel when this issue is happening). Any ideas why? Right as I started noticing the issue start, I saw this as the latest log line: Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=a4:7a:a4:72:be:85;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:23:df:a4;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;

Motorola MG7310-10

I'll be getting Time Warner cable soon with a 50/5 connection and need a modem/router or separate devices. I was looking at the Motorola MG7310-10. It has pretty good reviews except for a Wi-Fi problem that they have assured me is fixed with new firmware both in comments and a personal e-mail. See toward bottom of page: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Cable-Modem-Router-MG7310-10/dp/B01A1F3V7W. Of course conventional advice is that a combo device is either lacking in some features (would the Motorola have this deficiency?) and requires replacement of both in the event of failure (not too worried about this with a 2 year warranty they have). My other thought is the Arris 6141 with a separate router. I have an Asus WL-520GU that I'm not too sure would work that well for this and looks quite complicated to set up with IPv6, but of course the MG7310-10 would probably make this task much easier. Would appreciate any suggestions and any recommendations for a separate router if I go with the Arris 6141 or on going with the MG7310-10. New 6183 modem, have question

I just installed this modem a half hour ago. Seems to work fine. I looked at the log and found entries dated from Oct. 21st 2015. The modem looked properly sealed both the box and modem itself. Why the Oct. 21st 2015 entries? Is that from the factory setup or what? Thanks for any insight you can give.

I bought this cable modem almost 3 years ago. The reason why I bought it was to replace my old docsis 2.0 modem which I have for almost 4 years I have no problems with this modem until Monday. I noticed that the second and third lights were off. So I powercycled the modem and router and I was able to go online again. When I woke up the following day my internet was disconnected again. I called up Cox. They rebooted my modem from their end. I just noticed that since Monday evening my connection has dropped. Is there something wrong with my modem?

Arris SB6190 - some newbie tips..?

So - we're making the attempt to prepare for Comcast Business "gigabit" Internet access now that we've been told it's "...definitely coming soon..." (like July 1 or something), and the decision was made to implement our own cable modem instead of using Comcast's. For our use, the 'IT guy' recommended the Arris SB6190, which was ordered and received from Amazon, and yesterday, this was installed and activated. Everything was cool afterwards (mostly) but I guess I am maybe a bit confused... It seems that this SB6190 modem simply 'bridges' Comcast's IP address thru to MOST of our equipment (?? ... which allows MOST of our devices to operate fine), but our old SMC modem had a 'configurable' DHCP server in it that allowed us to limit the DHCP scope and 'reserve' addresses for our 'static' devices, but the SB6190 apparently does NOT have DHCP ..?? (which I find a bit curious...). So now, of course, our 'static' IPv4 IP addresses longer seem to be 'reachable' by computers, since the PCs seem to be receiving what appear to be Comcast IP addresses, and not anything that resembles our previous setup (10.0.0.x with the scope of the DHCP server limited to just 90 'assignable' IPv4 addresses ...). This was done so that all of the assigned 'static' addresses are used for 'static' devices like network printers, the NAS, and even the Windows Server 2012 system... So, am I like, "totally out of it" or something..? Does the SB6190 NOT have the capacity to configure a DHCP server ...? Do we simply install an internal router to achieve DHCP instead...? Or am I really just 'out-of-touch' with this type of equipment..? While I am no 'expert' with such things, I do believe I have a fairly reasonable understanding of IPv4 addressing and DHCP configuration, and similar, but how do we use the SB6190 and still maintain our internal 'statics' if, indeed, this new equipment just 'bridges' Comcast's DHCP addresses..? :uhh: And here I thought this was gonna just as 'transparent' to our use as it has always been... Guess I'm mistaken....

Motorola SB6141 modem page wont load.

Okay so for the past couple of days when I type in 192.168.100.1 to access my modem page, when I do this I get the error "192.168.100.1 page isn't working 192.168.100.1 didn't send any data. ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE". In order for me to get access to the page again I have to power cycle my equipment to see it again. I have two surfboards of theme same type of modem, one has router connected to it and the other is just a wired connection for another computer. They both give me the same issue. I can still use the Internet though just I cant access 192.168.100.1. This has only been happening to me very recently and I would like to know what course of action I should take cause this is starting to greatly concern me.

SB6183 Especially Sensitive To Power Flucuations/Brown-Outs?

Hey all, to get right to the point, is it me or does the SB6183 seem especially sensitive to power fluctuations and brown-outs? I replaced a SB6121 with an SB6183 about 6 months ago. Since then I've had two incidents of power flux as car-tree mating season hits its peak, and in both instances it has caused the SB6183 to completely lock up, necessitating a hard reboot. I find this notable because the SB6121 had no such issues over the nearly 4 years that I owned it; it would either soldier on or reboot, either way restoring itself without human intervention. It's proving to be a bit frustrating since consumer UPSes don't act fast enough to catch these events...

View ConfigFile and other stuff on my modem

I bought an Arris SB6190 and I'm wondering how I can view the config file on the modem. Is this possible? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, I viewed the status and other info available at the UI, 192.168.100.1 but it's not much. Is there more data/info available to view and if so, how?

SB6141 Disconnects New Router Every 3 Minutes

$

ISP: Comcast Setup: SB6141 Modem - Router - PC. I've disabled wireless and disconnected all other wired devices while troubleshooting. Symptoms: With my old Asus RT-N10P router connected, I get no disconnects at all. With my new TP-Link Archer C9 connected, I regularly get disconnected every 3 minutes via DHCP release/renew. In the system logs, I consistently see DHCP release and DHCP renew every 3 minutes. Prior to connecting my router, I have followed every step in the How to re-register a new MAC address guide. I disconnected my router from the WAN (via firmware/GUI). My cable modem was disconnected from coax and powered down overnight. I powered up my modem this morning and waited for all lights to go on. Powered up my new router, connected it to the modem, and connected my PC to LAN1. Other Troubleshooting: I've cloned my new router's MAC address to my old router's MAC address. No go. Tried cloning to my PC's MAC address. Still no go. Exchanged router for a new one of the same model. Same issues. So I think it's a problem with my modem hating my new router, but I have no idea how to make it stop the cycle of DHCP release/renew every 3 minutes. Has anyone encountered something similar before?

Some SB61XX modems may be vulnerable to a CSRF attack

See: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30690458-Security-SB6141s-with-older-version-firmware-vulnerable-to-CSRF-flaw This vulnerability has been demonstrated on a SB6141 modem running firmware version SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.14-SCM01-NOSH, the same one that's currently deployed to all SB6141s connected to Time Warner Cable's network. As far as SB6141s on Comcast's network goes, from https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30078716-Firmware-SB6141-Software-just-updated , SB6141 modems there should now be running at least F/W version SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.14-SCM03-NOSH . However, I don't know if this "SCM03" update of the 1.0.6.14 release is also vulnerable to this attack. ARRIS has now stated that they have updated the SB6141 firmware and are in the process of making it available to service providers. It is now it is up to these providers to then deliver the update to their subscribers'' SB6141 modems. EDIT: uid://1718867 , in the https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30690458-Security-SB6141s-with-older-version-firmware-vulnerable-to-CSRF-flaw thread, has now confirmed that, not only is the "SCM03" update of the 1.0.6.14 version also vulnerable, but that that same firmware has also been deployed on the SB612X models on Comcast's network. EDIT2: uid://1479488 has now confirmed that his SB6183 modem on Comcast's network does not seem to be affected [in the same way] by this. EDIT3: After some further testing with his SB6183 model, uid://1479488 now has reported: said by uid://1479488 :said by uid://1479488 :I thought it did Referrer checking to prevent this issue, but on further inspection it looks like it just requires a form POST (which means an exploit will be more difficult but may still be possible, I need to check). After a good bit more testing it turns out the SB6183 can be rebooted if you use Javascript. Embedding the links as an image doesn't work like it does with the SB6141, however jQuery's $.ajax() has no problem posting the needed data to the appropriate URL. In fact I was able to knock my SB6183 offline for over 10 minutes by doing a 3-step factory default -> set to European frequency plan -> reboot sequence.

Recently I have noticed when I try to view the status page it hangs and doesn't load or times out. Only way for me to access the modem's page is to cold start the modem. But after a few days the problem reoccurs. I never used to have this issue. Any ideas? Comcast is my ISP if that matters.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knew of any issues involving these models (TG1672/1682) and local link FE80's not showing up in the client list. Most of the time when this happens the firmware is a little outdated from what is usually on there (8 vs 9) but it seems that each time an attempt to update happens it fails. Seeing some TFTP modification that im posting below, other than that nothing else seems off.... Have tested others of same model and get same results. TG1670/1672 modem getting public IP in bridge mode

AFAIK there is no way to stop the modem even in bridge mode to get a public IPv4/IPv6/IPv6 prefix. And what is listening on 9081/tcp of the public IPv4 address? A syn flood against this port can severely degrade the modem's performance even in bridge mode.

FYI - From: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30741437-Firmware-Arris-TG1682G said by uid://1923831 :New firmware appears to unlock 8 downstream channels, to change the device to 32x8 from 24x8. I have 24 downstream [channels that have] locked. eMTA & DOCSIS Software Version: 10.0.113A.SIP.PC20.CT Software Image Name: TG1682_2.1p4s3_PROD_sey EDIT: Other things I've noticed: Now allows bandwidth selection for 2.4 and 5 networks Introduces a Wi-Fi spectrum analyzer. Not much good, just a one time scan of surrounding networks. Also, the introduction of an unknown MAC connected by Ethernet. Seen hints that this may be something to do with the internal firewall?

SBG6900-AC can't get WAN IP from ISP

Hi, I have bought the modem from Best Buy and brought it to Turkey to use with Turksat's Uydunet Cable service. We have called our Cable service provider and gave them modem's MAC address. They have added it and we were able to get signal. But the modem can not get an IP from the service provider. Also we can not change the Country setting in the modem. Our old modem, which is Netmaster CBW-383Z4, works fine. I have contacted ARRIS but they did not help. What can I do about it ?
